About Sonia

I am a licensed clinical social worker with almost three decades of experience supporting children, teens, families, and individual adults. I earned my Master’s degree from Smith College School for Social Work in 1998, and I have worked with children and families in a variety of settings.

My foundation is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, an insight-oriented approach that explores how past relationships and experiences shape current patterns and behaviors. This perspective deeply informs how I think about child and adult development and the unique paths each person takes toward growth and healing.

In my work with children and families, I integrate play therapy, and I work from a trauma-informed lens. I have completed the foundational level of Theraplay®, a directive form of caregiver-child psychotherapy, as well as Levels 1 and 2 training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. I am trained in early childhood mental health, including infant and child-parent psychotherapy and reflective practice, which offer non-directive, relationship-based approaches to supporting young children and their caregivers. Working with neurodiverse populations is another one of my specialties. I use some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology and Developmental Psychology in my work.

It is inspiring to witness the resilience of individuals and families and to share in the connection that grows as they work toward creating health and well-being in their lives. I find it deeply fulfilling to help parents gain a clearer and fuller understanding of their child’s behaviors and the meaning behind them, empowering them to support their child’s growth and emotional health. Similarly, I partner with individual adults to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, looking at all aspects of their lives to foster greater insight, well-being, and alignment with their values.
